Peter Friedl’s Last Jest will be on view at the Loggia dei Vini in Rome’s Villa Borghese from 2 October 2026 to 15 November 2026. Admission is free. The public opening was scheduled for 1 October 2026, from 6pm to 9pm, ahead of the regular visiting schedule.
Why include it in a Rome visit?
For travellers who enjoy contemporary art, this is a possible addition to a walk through Villa Borghese. It combines an artwork with a pavilion commissioned by Cardinal Scipione Borghese and built between 1609 and 1618. The setting gives visitors a reason to look beyond the park’s better-known attractions.
The work forms part of LAVINIA, an art programme curated by Salvatore Lacagnina. Its starting point is Edgar Allan Poe’s story Hop-Frog, with references to costume, theatre and power. The event is presented as an artwork rather than a scheduled stage performance.
This is a separate venue from the Borghese Gallery. A gallery reservation should not be taken as confirmation of access to the Loggia dei Vini, or vice versa. The free admission makes it possible to consider this stop on its own.
Check the day before setting out
The venue opens on Thursday and Friday afternoons and on Saturday and Sunday from late morning. It does not advertise regular Monday-to-Wednesday opening.
