ROME – Food: Tasting Art opens at Chiostro del Bramante on 17 October 2026. Curated by Suzanne Landau, the exhibition offers visitors a way to explore a familiar subject through works ranging from the sixteenth century to contemporary practice.
Why consider it during a Rome stay?
Food is one of the first ways travellers encounter a place. This exhibition shifts the question from what to eat to how artists use food to express memory, identity, desire and relationships. Themes include still life, the kitchen, the body, design, global exchange and ecology.
The announced loans include seventeen restored works from Villa Medicea di Poggio a Caiano and three historic table services from the Richard Ginori museum archive foundation. Alongside contemporary research, these objects can help visitors connect everyday rituals with a longer cultural history.
You do not need to know an Italian poet or a local political story to approach the subject. The setting also makes it a practical cultural stop around Piazza Navona, where a walk through the historic centre can be combined with an indoor exhibition.
Art, rather than a tasting appointment
Despite the English title, the available information does not promise food samples. This is an exhibition about food in art, not a culinary tasting event.
English-language guided visits are available on request under the venue’s separate educational programme. Arrange a tour in advance if you want that service; do not assume an English guide is included in a standard admission ticket. The languages of all independent-visit interpretation have not yet been confirmed.
