Forlì’s Museo Civico San Domenico hosts Lee Miller: Works 1930–1955 from 10 October 2026 to 10 January 2027. Curated by Walter Guadagnini, the exhibition brings together more than 160 photographs from the Lee Miller Archives, including lesser-known images, tracing a career that connects surrealism, fashion and war reporting.

Several careers, one photographer
The exhibition follows Miller from her Paris years with Man Ray through portrait and fashion photography in the United States and her time in Egypt. Experiments such as solarisation and her contact with surrealist artists provide a thread through these changes in place and subject.
These connections help explain why an unexpected detail or an unsettling arrangement can recur in very different settings. The show places artistic experimentation alongside professional commissions rather than treating them as separate careers.
Photography as wartime testimony
Working for Vogue during the Second World War, Miller photographed bomb-damaged London and later followed Allied troops as an accredited correspondent. Her European reporting included the concentration camps; accompanying texts also reveal her work as a journalist.
The exhibition offers a way to understand the relationship between these photographs and her earlier practice. The archival image accompanying this article is a historical photograph, not a view of the Forlì installation.
