ROME – Visitors looking for contemporary culture beyond the historic centre can consider MACRO’s October programme. The museum pairs its exhibitions with live sound, jazz and a day of free gallery access. Choose the date that fits your trip and check the event’s booking conditions before travelling.
Music with fewer language barriers
On 7 October 2026 at 7pm, British sound artist Scanner performs 52 Spaces in the museum’s cinema room. The live work reinterprets images and sound associated with Michelangelo Antonioni’s film L’eclisse. It is a performance, not a standard screening of the entire film, and offers an entry point for visitors interested in electronic music and moving images.
On 25 October 2026, two French jazz duos perform as part of Una striscia di terra feconda: Médéric Collignon with Christophe Monniot at 5pm, followed by Christophe Séva with Daniel Zimmermann at 6pm. Unlike a discussion conducted mainly in Italian, instrumental music can be enjoyed without understanding the language of introductions.
A free art day, plus an English event
Exhibition admission is free on 10 October 2026, from 10am to 7pm, for Italy’s Contemporary Art Day. Guided visits and a film programme are also scheduled, but their languages and subtitles have not been confirmed. You can still choose to explore the exhibitions independently.
An earlier option is the 1 October 2026 visit and masterclass with exhibition designer Didier Fiúza Faustino, running from 3pm to 6pm in English. This is most useful for travellers with a particular interest in contemporary art and architecture, rather than those seeking a general introduction to Rome.
