With six million visitors every year, the British Museum is one of the world’s greatest museums and is currently undertaking a major redevelopment of its Great Court to create Europe’s largest covered square. Located at the heart of Norman Foster’s stunning architectural design will be the British Museum Company’s 4 new shops: the Bookshop, Children’s and Gift shops. We are currently looking for a number of experienced, enthusiastic retail staff to become a part of this exciting project.

Cashiers/Administration Assistants/Stockroom Assistants
Salary: c. £12,750 rising to £14,500 plus benefits Ref: 04/00i Based inside the Museum, the Stock and Administration Team provides our Retail Division with a complete support service covering the areas of Stock Management, Administration and Cash Handling. We are looking for enthusiastic, energetic people with experience in one or all of these areas to join this growing team. The successful candidate will have a minimum of 3 years retail experience with particular emphasis on stock control, warehousing, order processing, cash office activities and administration. You will be able to demonstrate a good standard of oral and written communication, computer literacy and numeracy.

Sales Assistants
Salary: c. £11,700 rising to £14,500 plus benefits Ref: 07/00i Ideally, applicants will have a minimum of 2 years sales experience with a leading retailer or bookseller, a high standard of education and an interest in history and ancient cultures. Above all we are looking for people with a proven ability to provide our customers with an exceptional level of service. Both positions will require weekend and shift working. We operate a 4 days on/2 days off rota system, which provides a generous amount of time off. The British Museum Company Limited is the trading arm of the British Museum and includes the Retail Division, British Museum Press and British Museum Traveller. This means that our offices on Bloomsbury Street constantly busy, and that includes our post room! We are currently looking for an enthusiastic, hardworking and helpful individual to look after our post room. Duties include sending out mail order catalogues, sorting, weighing and franking post, processing registered and recorded mail, delivering large or bulky parcels to offices, ordering supplies and keeping the post room tidy. The successful candidate will have previous post room experience, a flexible, organised approach to work a polite, helpful manner and be familiar with Word and Excel. You will be required to lift and carry heavy loads.
